After moving to Switzerland with my family 10 years ago I felt there was a need for a flexible, fun and educational preschool. As a qualified early years and primary school teacher with 20 years of experience teaching in schools in the UK and Hong Kong, I decided to start one for my youngest daughter and her friends at home in Finstersee. That was in 2014 with just 4 children. We now have more than 50 children registered with us and have moved to a more spacious playroom in Unterägeri.
My aim was to create a pre-school/reception classroom environment where children could come to play and learn and have fun. The children are exposed to traditional stories, fairy tales, counting rhymes and songs. They learn to recognise numbers and letter sounds and enjoy different craft activities. We have a playdough table, a writing table and many other activities designed to work on fine motor skills. As well as all of this, there is always plenty of time for free play in the home corner or outside.
As well as the pre-reading and writing skills that the children are learning continuously, we also have extra phonics and writing classes for the older children. We use the Oxford Reading Tree books and Dandelion readers and follow the UK Letters and sounds programme. We have a great team of U.K. qualified Primary school teachers to teach these lessons.
Shooting Stars Preschool is growing but remains a small, caring preschool. Come and visit us!
